"Al Dunia" July 9-11, 1999 "Best Troupe" Giza Academy Music & Legends of Dance, Video award Only performed for one weekend in Hollywood and Brea, California. "Al Dunia" ("The World") was the opening piece for the show and video of the same name. While I lived in Egypt I dreamt of women of many nations dressed in white, not their modest dark, holding hands, and dancing together with open smiles! To see it realized was very emotional for me, usually viewers do not understand the meaning and advise me that these dresses are not white. When I say "I know" with tears in my eyes, they understand. "Ala Nar" Ya Amar! performed "Ala Nar" from 1996-2006 Sahra's original "Ala Nar" with its Cairo rhythm can be seen on her early Cairo video. (Choreography Farida Fahmy, coached by Ali Reda) Later, Sahra arranged the music as a Saidi piece, as it can be seen on her later Cairo video. Once in the USA she re-choreographed it for group, and it became the Ya Amar! standard. |

"Al Ghareeb al Dar" (Mouwashahat) 2nd International Conference on Middle Eastern Dance - May 2001 Choreography: Mahmoud Reda for the Reda Troupe. The video projection behind us is of the Reda Troupe. At the end of the dance, on film, Mme. Farida Fahmy appeared in the center of their circle. On our stage, too, Mme. Fahmy appeared in the center of our circle. A singular moment I will never forget. |

"RA - The Eclipse of the Sun" Scheduled for 9/15/2001, performed May, 2002 Choreography: Sahra C. Kent I could explain "RA" as finally going back to my roots - my first dance jobs, while struggling as a Modern Dancer, were choreographing musical theater. The story and visuals had been in my head for years, now was the time. It had a huge cast, Ya Amar! was augmented by Kamala's dancers, Cuban and Brazilian dancers. It turned out to be a somewhat dark, definitely deep, story - intensified by the National tragedy of 9/11 and personal loss. "RA" pages/Cast/Journal |

"RA - The Eclipse of the Sun" June, 2007 Choreography: Sahra C. Kent I was so happy to get to have a second chance to do "RA" Even if it was one month after our May show, with totally different choreography, and additional dancers rehearsing in two different cities. Unfortunately again it turned out to be a heavy time - our venue, Cairo Carnival, was having a difficult time and it was 2 months after the passing of my father. View Flyer |
