"JtE - Journey through Egypt" is a structured series of Intensive Workshops
of the Dance Zones of Egypt from a Dance Ethnology view.
... With University Degrees including Dance Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology,
Sahra created a framework for continued study and research in the Dances of Egypt.
JtE-1 Journey through Egypt 1 Intensive Workshop weekend
JtE-1 presents an overview of the Dance Zones of Egypt with attention paid to dance steps and movement, posture and costume recognition, dance zone geographical location, historical consideration and cultural diffusion. Multi-media approach includes learning through viewing films, lecture, study materials, trying on costumes, and experiencing the dance.
20-Hour Intensive Workshop includes dance and ritual movement of Cairo, Nubia, Ghawazee, Delta, Suez Canal, Bedouin groups, Siwa, Saidi region, and pan-Egyptian Zeffah, Zar and others.
Class is open to dancers, anthropologists, historians, costume vendors and interested persons, female and male.
Includes free notebook, study materials, map, DVD and CD. Certificate upon completion.
JtE-2 Journey through Egypt 2 Deeper into the Dance Zones
Basic Core Class 2: Deeper Intensive. This Intensive weekend with Certification is an advanced "basic" overview, within which we set a strong base for our future research and specializations.
We aim to study and understand each dance zone's movement with the perspectives of:
- authentic non-performance "home-style" dance,
- local indigenous professional performers,
- regional government troupes,
- national government theater-stage troupes: both Reda and Kowmeyya,
- as represented in Cairo's Night Club Orientale Dance shows.
20-Hour Intensive Workshop includes dance and ritual movement of the "Dance Zones of Egypt" (see JtE-1) with special work in a variety dances, such as Awalem Shamadan Farrah style, Cairo examples of Hassaballah, Beja Bravery Dance of Nubia, Bamboteyya of the Suez Canal, Awlad Ali Bedouin Hagallah dance, Zaggala of
Siwa, Saidi Assaya, Firqit Zeffah,and much more.
Class is open to those who have graduated from pre-requisite JtE-1

JtE-3 Journey through Egypt - Cairo
JtE-3 On-site Cairo Egypt as Classroom includes: dance classes, Dance Ethnology training in Cairo and Giza, historical sites, interviews with people in the know and personal attention to the development of your own personal fieldwork. As trained dancers and informed researchers, we travel to Egypt!
30-Hour Intensive Tour; More than 30 hours of instruction in 6-7 days. We live the real Egypt: While learning anthropological observation techniques,we interview and observe local people, gaining insight into the culture in which these dances emerge. The real Egypt is not just the marble floors of the 5-star hotels, not just a bus rushing to take us to artifacts behind glass.
Class/Tour is open to those who have graduated from pre-requisite JtE-1 & JtE-2
Includes study materials, lodging at Sphinx Guesthouse, half-board, all stated tours, performances and instruction. Certificate upon completion.
JtE-4 Journey through Egypt - Upper Egypt
JtE-4 On-site Upper Egypt as Classroom includes: dance classes, Dance Ethnology training in Upper Egypt including Luxor and Aswan, with tours in Edfu and Kom Ombo, historical sites, interviews with people in the know, observing Nubian culture, culminating in a performance with live Nubian musicians and graduation.. Readied from our core work in JtE-1, JtE-2 and JtE-3 we continue our quest, learning and experiencing movement and culture taught to us by a variety of indigenous peoples. The real Egypt is filled with colorful people and dance!
40-Hour Intensive Tour; More than 40 hours of instruction in 9 days.
Class/tour is open to those who have graduated from pre-requisite JtE-1, JtE-2 & JtE-3
Includes study materials, lodging at Sheraton Luxor and Basma Aswan, half-board, all stated tours, performances and instruction. Certificate upon completion.
JtE-5 Journey through Egypt - South Sinai / Suez Canal
JtE-4 On-site South Sinai and Suez Canal as Classroom includes: dance classes, Dance Ethnology training in South Sinai and Suez Canal including Dahab, St. Catherine's village, Ismailiyya, and Port Said, with tours in those cities, the St Catherine Monestary, historical sites, interview with Bedouin, visting the Ismailiyya regional dance company, dance class with Semsemiyya musicians. This the only JtE tour where we have our own exclusive bus, tour guide and translator
40-Hour Intensive Tour; More than 40 hours of instruction in 10 days.
Class is open to all interested persons, female and male. No pre-requisite this year.
Includes study materials, lodging, half-board, all stated tours, performances and instruction.
Certificate for those who have completed all the music and dance classes.
All JtE Egypt Tours begin and end in Cairo, includes transfer to and from the airport if you wish. Tours do not include airflight or passport.
